FINANCE MANAGER / SUPERVISOR

Numeral uno / Checker and Balancer / Confidant

You like numbers and they like you back. They all seem to get perfectly managed into perfect balance when you’re around. But numbers aren’t your only friends. People are your real ride-or-dies. Because you see value beyond dollars. You know that in a creative environment, people are the most important asset — and know how to help manage business accordingly. Yes, this gig is managing the financials. And, yes, you’ll work closely with the Managing Director, our accountants, the account managers and project managers. But this gig is also helping people by being the go-to for things like benefits, office issues, or whatever tangentially-related-to-work life stuff bubbles up.

Some bullet points, right after a perfectly placed colon:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience. This is not your first rodeo — you’ve got some solid accounting experience and you’re confident around invoices, checks, payroll, monthly reporting and projections. You should be comfortable and qualified in Quickbooks.

  • You’re self-driven. You know when to work autonomously and when to bring people in. You’re a department of one essentially, so you need to be the star of the show.

  • You delight in details. Once you get in to the weekly and monthly routine, you will manage the heck out of making sure everything is accounted for (that’s an accounting joke). Incoming invoices get approved and checks get cut and signed. Outgoing invoices are sent and tracked. Payroll is crucial and you’ll triple check it just to be sure. And then the preparation of monthly financial reports and projections that you share with the Partners.

  • You love to liaise. You don’t have to know everything about everything, but you do need to know how to get questions answered and problems solved. You will be the liaison with our benefits partner, our 401k partner, our bank and our accountants.

  • Locking it down is no problem. You will be privy to confidential information, it’s part of the job, so you need to operate in a secure and confidential manner. There is a lot of trust in this role, but you know that. And you know how to keep it tight.

  • You’re a grown-up. Sure, you have years under your belt and maybe some big brand work but your ego is nowhere to be found. You get urgency. You present with confidence. You’re always on deadline. You are eager to solicit and apply feedback; you believe no idea is too precious to be revised or re-re-re-revised.

  • You give a damn. Not just about your own work, but about our client’s success, about your coworkers, and about the world.

If hired for this position, you will have the opportunity to work with the outgoing person who is retiring. There will be a period of transition while responsibilities are taken over. Also, the outgoing person is pretty darn awesome and will likely take your call if you find yourself in a pinch.

And now, for some super formal but totally important detail stuff you ought to know:

This is a full-time position with benefits, reporting to the Partners, and the Managing Director specifically, and it is located in Raleigh, NC. As a B&-er, you’ll not only get to work on super fun projects for super fun brands with a team of super smart people — you’ll also enjoy a range of delightful perks, including (but not limited to):

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Health insurance

  • National holidays + monthly, made-up holidays

  • Work/life balance
